Radiation from the Fukushima I plant

Fortunately the nuclear problems that the Japanese are having are not likely to have much impact on us, but I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been following developments with some concern. One of the big questions is: how much radiation has been emitted, and how much is "safe"?

There's an interesting comparison at http://xkcd.com/radiation/ which is well worth a look. The short answer: what's happened so far is well beyond daily limits, but not nearly enough to cause radiation sickness in most people.

And just for laughs, look just below the left-hand box:
Using a cell phone: 0 ?sV-a cell phone's transmitter does not produce ionizing radiation and does not cause cancer.

While we all know people who dispute the validity of that statement, it is true in that context that there is no ionizing radiation. That puts it ahead of living within 50 miles of a nuclear power plant for one year (0.09 ?sV), eating a banana (0.1 ?sV) or living within 50 miles of a coal power plant for a year (0.3 ?sV).

It would be interesting to see a similar chart for electromagnetic radiation (radio waves).

DATA spews more hate and lies

It's becoming a bore but Wendy McClelland has stuffed our mail boxes with another lie filled rant about mobile phone towers - only this time including personal attacks against myself and Greg. As I said I will no longer enter into discussion with Wendy because she is clearly unable to rationally discuss things like an adult. I have attached scans of her rambling inconsistent arguments after the break for your amusement (and to document her descent into madness). Enjoy!

Classic Crazy

Here's some classic crazy from 2005.No Wendy, even a high-schooler can tell you that no reading means INFINITE resistance but don't let the facts get in the way of a good scare story, eh Wendy? Of course not, better to spin yarns and get people all afraid of the big invisible radiation monster that is going to kill everyone. Because as we all know, once Telstra and Optus have killed us all that's when they'll be able to make their biggest profits. In any case 'resistance' here doesn't mean what you think it means, english is a difficult language to grasp - sometimes words have two or more meanings!

Can anybody access "savedereel.com"?

After the smear campaign that Wendy and Stewart McClelland have launched, I thought I'd go and see what new "evidence" they have come up with. But their site is not reachable: they've used up their bandwidth limit. Clearly they got more interest than they expected. If anybody has accessed it, and they have any new information (plausible or not), could you let us know?
